The Roar will face the BPL select side at Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (QSAC) at Nathan on Saturday, 27 August (7:30pm KO)

The match will be one of three pre-season fixtures for the Roar to be played in Brisbane before the beginning of the Hyundai A-League season on October 7.

Moon, who played 16 matches for the then Queensland Roar between 2005 and 2006, says that the match is an invaluable opportunity for those selected.

“This game is a great showcase for the BPL not only for the players but for coaches to test themselves against quality [Hyundai] A-league opposition and it’s something exciting to be involved in,” Moon said.

“We also want to give the Roar a good hit out as a part of their preparation for the upcoming season.

“We won’t be too focused on results but looking at putting on a good competitve performance.

“If anyone can impress the watching eyes from the Roar staff then that is obviously a bonus.”

Coaching is an aspect of football that Moon enjoys and he says he is looking forward to the challenge of coaching against the The Roar’s experienced coaches.

“I’m really enjoying coaching senior men’s football in the BPL and I do it because I enjoy it and it’s fun to test myself against other good coaches on a weekly basis,” Moon said.

“Coaching against the Roar coaching staff, who are legends of the game, will be nice.”

The match will provide a chance for Brisbane fans to see the Roar’s recent signings, Danish International Thomas Kristensen (below) and Joey Katebian in action.

Elaine Watson and Canale Cup matches at the Gap were taken into account when scheduling a Saturday evening kick-off to negate any conflicting fixtures.

The BPL Select side will consist of 22 players from across the Football Brisbane Flight Centre Premier League sides with 11 playing the first half before being replaced by the remaining 11 players for the second half.

Football Brisbane General Manager Brisbane Craig Morris says the match will provide a thrilling experience for the select side, playing against Queensland’s sole top-division side on a first-class surface at QSAC.

“The players will be looking forward to testing themselves against the Brisbane Roar, but also the experience of playing on a premium surface at QSAC will be a treat,” Morris said.

Admission to the event will be FREE for all spectators with car parking available at QSAC on. Gates open at 6.30pm with kick-off scheduled for 7.30pm.

Details on the remaining two pre-season matches to be played in Brisbane will be released soon.
