Jordan Courtney-Perkins joins Brisbane Roar on loan

Australian U23’s defender Jordan Courtney-Perkins has joined Brisbane Roar on loan from Polish side Raków Czestochowa for the Isuzu UTE 2022/23 A-League season.

The 19-year-old returns to Roar after making his debut for Raków in Poland’s national league, Ekstraklasa, in August 2021 before a loan deal to Warta Poznan in February 2022.

Courtney-Perkins said he was excited about coming back to Brisbane Roar this season.

“When the opportunity arose to come back and help the team I was immediately interested,” he said.

“Coming home seems to be a great opportunity for me to get some consistent game time. I hope to help the team any way I can, on and off the pitch.

“I obviously know a lot of the boys in the team and with the new players that have come in, I believe we have a strong squad that can do great things this season.

“I’m keen to get the season underway,” Courtney-Perkins added.

The defender has been enjoying his experience playing in Europe.

Courtney-Perkins is the first Australian player in Raków’s history, and just the fifth Aussie ever to play in the history of the Polish topflight.

In December 2019, he was part of Rakow’s run to the Polish Cup title and subsequent qualification to the qualifying round of the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League, coming on as a substitute in their Round of 16 win.

Since joining Raków, Courtney-Perkins feels that he has gained valuable experience, something he wants to bring back to the Roar.

“It is a fast-paced league, so I have had to speed up my decision-making on and off the ball. There is also a large focus on physicality and since day one I have been working under a program to improve in this area,” he said.

“I believe I’ve learnt a lot I can bring back to Brisbane.”

Courtney-Perkins has been an integral figure in Roar’s Youth sides since winning the 2018-19 Y-League championship.

Not long after, he signed a scholarship contract with the Roar for the 2019–20 season before making his professional debut just two days later against Sydney FC in the Round of 32 Australia Cup tie.

Playing a full 90-minutes in Roar’s 2-0 win over the Sky Blues, Courtney-Perkins become the youngest player to play for the Brisbane Roar at 16 years, 9 months and 1 days.

Internationally, Courtney-Perkins has also made his mark, pulling on the green and gold for the Joey’s at the 2018 AFC U16 Championship and 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup. More recently, he was part of Trevor Morgan’s squad for the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup, where Australia finished fourth.

He will don No.3.

Courtney-Perkin’s arrival back in Brisbane further strengthens Warren Moon’s squad ahead of the new A-League Men’s season with three weeks to go.
