Brisbane Roar secured the three points at AAMI Park on Saturday night in their last Isuzu UTE A-League fixture against Melbourne Victory.
It was Jordan Courtney-Perkins getting his first Isuzu UTE A-League goal that gave Brisbane the victory and saw them end their season on a high.
The first opportunity for the Roar presented itself in the 15th minute where a Jay O’Shea corner found Tom Aldred in front of goal for a header that forced a save from Victory’s Paul Izzo.
In a game of both teams creating chances in their front third, it was the Roar who got themselves on the scoreboard in the 54th minute when Jordan Courtney-Perkins fired a shot into the roof of the goal. Izzo getting a hand to the ball, but not enough to see it over the crossbar.
Henry Hore showed a bit of flair with a back-heel to assist the goal that put Brisbane in the lead.
Interim Head Coach Nick Green says it was how they wanted to end the season and is pleased at how his squad bounced back from their loss on Monday against Sydney FC.
“A good way to end the season. We wish it could’ve been better, however, how it happened on Monday, we were looking to hit back and bounce back from that, and we did that tonight,” Green said.
Green reflected on the goal by Courtney-Perkins and the assisting back-heel put on display by Henry Hore.
“He recognised that opportunity to try and get forward, and Henners did really well to cut inside, and he’s been brilliant for me,” he said.
“It was a great finish, it was well-worked, it was a good goal to win a game. We’re pleased with Jordan tonight,” he added.
As Green finishes his time as Interim Head Coach, he believes his squad capitalised well on the back end of the season to get some wins under their belt after previously trailing at the bottom of the ladder.
“My experience has been really good, I have had some learning opportunities here, I think we’ve done really well in the nine games,” Green said.
“We’ve had four wins, four defeats, three clean-sheets and a draw which is not a bad record considering we were bottom of the league.”
