Brisbane Roar endured a night to forget, going down 8-1 to Melbourne City in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 10 action at AAMI Park on Thursday evening.
Curtis Good, Jamie Maclaren (3), Leo Natel (2), Tolgay Arslan and Ben Mazzeo were all on target for City as they handed the Roar their heaviest ever A-League defeat.
16-year-old substitute, Rylan Brownlie netted a consolation for Roar in the 62nd minute when he poked home a one-on-one finish to become the club’s youngest ever A-League Men’s goal scorer.
Roar sit sixth on the A-League ladder following Thursday’s defeat but are likely to drop out of the top six for the first time this season by the conclusion of the weekend’s Round 10 action.
Speaking post-match Roar midfielder, Jay O’Shea said Thursday’s result was unacceptable.
“That was probably the worst performance that we’ve ever had, since i’ve been at the club,” O’Shea said.
“Defensively, as a team we were miles off it today, we have to get back to the training ground and look at what we did wrong, it’s just not good enough.
“I think it was collective, it wasn’t just the defence it was all the players, it started from us up top.
“They were getting through us too easy and every time they broke on us they looked like they were going to score.
“We’re going to have to lift ourselves, that’s three on the bounce now it’s just not good enough.”
