NPL Queensland R2 Preview: Moreton City Excelsior v Young Roar

The 2024 NPL Queensland season continues for Young Roar, who make the trip to Wolter Park to face Moreton City Excelsior on Saturday night.

Saturday’s Round Two action sees the NPL U23’s kick off at 4:45pm ahead of the NPL First team game at 7:30pm.

Young Roar were edged out 1-0 by Brisbane City in their league opener last weekend ,while the U23’s were victorious with a 4-1 win last Saturday night.

Despite Young Roar creating a number of big chances a 17th minute Malakai Love-Semira strike proved decisive for the home side in wet conditions at Imperial Corp Stadium.

Young Roar’s side for last weekend’s Round One clash was headlined by James Nikolovski, Louis Zabala, Taras Gomulka, Ayom Majok and Rylan Brownlie who have all played A-League minutes this season.

The newly rebranded Moreton City Excelsior, who are a merger between Moreton Bay United and Albany Creek Excelsior opened their league campaign with campaign with a 1-1 draw on the road against Olympic FC last weekend.

Excelsior, who finished second at the end of the 2023 regular season and reached the NPL Queensland Grand Final are coached by Cameron Millar and contain a number of former Roar Academy players including last seasons NPL Golden Boot winner, Marquez Walters, Nathan Foster, Ben Holliday and Lachlan Sayers.

Saturday’s NPL First Team match kicks off at 7:30pm and will be live streamed on the Football Queensland YouTube channel and FQTV.
