Brisbane Roar midfielder, Florin Berenguer said his side can’t wait to go up against Melbourne Victory ahead of Saturday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Round 25 clash at AAMI Park
Roar who start the weekend in ninth position on the league table, look to bounce back after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle Jets last weekend.
Victory, who also lost last weekend – going down 1-0 to Wellington Phoenix sit third on the ladder and can secure a home final with three points on Saturday.
Berenguer, who called AAMI Park home for five seasons whilst representing Victory’s cross-town rivals City nears the conclusion of his first season in Brisbane in which he’s registered three goals and three assists from 17 appearances.
The midfielder scored the club’s fastest ever A-League goal when he found the back of the net after just 32 seconds against Wellington at Sky Stadium in Round Three.
The Frenchman, who is in line to make his 100th A-League start on Saturday said his side were ready to put in a big shift against Victory.
“It’s always good to play these kind of teams, we beat them a month ago at home so they probably want revenge, but we’re keen to go to AAMI Park, it’s a nice Stadium, hopefully a good crowd and we take the win,” Berenguer said.
“We’re training well, we’ve done well during the week, every player was on their toes and we’re ready to roll the sleeves up for the weekend.
“Everyone is ready, we can’t wait to go there and hopefully we give a good shift for Saturday.”
Roar defeated Victory 3-2 when the sides went head-to-head at Suncorp Stadium in the reverse fixture at Suncorp Stadium last month.
Marco Rojas netted brace, while Thomas Waddingham was also on target against a Victory side who found the back of the net through Zinedine Machach and Roly Bonevacia.
Roar are unbeaten in their last six A-League Men matches against Victory in a run that stretches back to November 2021.
Berenguer said his side certainly wouldn’t be taking anything for granted ahead of Saturday’s match at AAMI Park.
“The win was a while ago and last week we got defeated at home against the Jets, every game is different, we move on game after game,” Berenguer said.
“We’ve forgotten about the Jets and now we’re focused on the Victory, it will be pretty tough but we know what to expect and we know what we have to do better to win the game.”
Saturday’s match at AAMI Park kicks off at 5:30pm and will be broadcast live on Paramount+.
