Brisbane Roar played out a 0-0 draw with Melbourne Victory in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 25 action at AAMI Park on Saturday evening.
Despite enjoying 60% possession and fashioning 21 efforts at goal Roar were unable to find a breakthrough as the sides battled to a goalless draw.
Kai Trewin came close in the third minute when he rose highest to meet a Corey Brown corner at the near post but sent his glancing header just wide of the target.
The best chance of the first half fell to Henry Hore in the 38th minute when the midfielder’s header came crashing back off the woodwork on the end of a Nikola Mileusnic cross.
Tom Aldred forced Paul Izzo into a scrambling save with his header at the back post from the resulting corner kick.
Victory were reduced to ten men in the 51st minute when Jason Geria was dismissed following VAR review for a lunging challenge on Corey Brown.
Nikola Mileusnic forced Izzo into another flying save with a powerful header on the end of another quality delivery by Corey Brown.
Izzo again came up with with a strong to deny a driven effort by Hore from the top of the box in the 71st minute.
Fornaroli came close with an acrobatic header at the near post in the 73rd minute as the hosts provided a timely reminder of their threat going the other way.
Another big chance fell to the Socceroo when he got in behind the Roar defence three minutes later only to be denied by Macklin Freke on his way to a third clean sheet of the season.
Substitutes Jez Lofthouse and Jonas Markovski combined for Roar’s final big chance of the night when the latter fired an effort over the bar from close range.
Saturday’s result sees Roar climb above Adelaide United into eighth on the A-League ladder heading into the final round of the regular season.
