NPL R19 Match Wrap: Young Roar 1-1 Rochedale

Young Roar played out a 1-1 draw against Rochedale Rovers in NPL Queensland Round 19 action at Nudgee Recreation Reserve on Saturday evening.

The two sides couldn’t be split on the scoreboard after trading first half goals through Ivan Ozzi and Marek Madle.

Roar came within inches of a stunning opener when Jack Benham rattled the crossbar with a rasping volley after just nine seconds.

Madle put the visitors in front in the 33rd minute when he met a Mitchell Roberts cross at the near post and bundled the ball over the line with his chest.

Ozzi levelled the scores on the stroke of half time with a booming header at the back post on the end of a Lennard Atterwell cross.

Ozzi, who is Roar’s leading scorer in the NPL this season took his tally to eight with Saturday’s goal while Atterwell marked his first NPL Men’s start with an assist.

Neither side was able to add to the scoring in the second half with the best chance falling to Ozzi who was denied by a point blank Jordan Holmes save.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw sees Roar remain in tenth position on the NPL Queensland ladder with four matches remaining in the regular season.

Roar’s U23 side prevailed 1-0 over Rochedale in the earlier kick off courtesy of a Caleb Butler goal.

Next up for Young Roar is a clash against league leaders, Gold Coast Knights on Saturday, July 27.
