Young Roar take on Olympic FC in NPL Queensland Round 20 action at Goodwin Park on Sunday afternoon.
Andre Bennett’s side start the weekend in tenth position on the league table with just three rounds remaining in the 2024 regular season.
Roar come into Sunday’s match after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Gold Coast Knights last weekend in an afternoon where Roar pushed the league leaders all the way before being undone by an 86th minute strike from former Roar midfielder Bradden Inman.
Roar will be without top scorer, Ivan Ozzi for Sunday’s trip to Goodwin Park after the forward was sent off after picking up two yellow cards against Gold Coast Knights, however Lucas Herrington comes back into contention after returning from international duty with the Young Socceroos.
Herrington, who is the fourth Young Roar player to represent Australia at youth level this year started three games for the Young Socceroos as they finished third at the ASEAN U19 Boys’ Championship in Indonesia.
On Wednesday it was confirmed that Charlie Parkin and Rhys Williams had been called up for a 24-player Joeys squad for the PacificAus Sports Football Tour against the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu Under-19 Men’s Teams next month as further preparation for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2025™ Qualifiers.
Olympic, who are coached by former Roar player and Youth Coach, Chris Grossman currently sit seventh on the NPL Queensland table and were defeated 3-1 by Peninsula Power in their most recent outing.
Olympic are home to several ex-Roar players including James Nikolovski, Daniel Leck, Cyrus Dehmie, Brandon McMorrow and Danny Driver.
Roar and Olympic have already gone head-to-head once this season with Roar running out 3-2 victors courtesy of strikes from Ayom Majok and Quinn MacNicol along with an own goal.
Roar’s U23 side go up against Olympic in the evening’s later kick off looking to build on their one point advantage over Moreton City at the top of the table as the Premiership race goes down to the wire.
Sunday’s action at Goodwin Park takes place at 4:30pm (NPL Men) and 6:45pm (NPL U23) with the NPL Men’s match being live streamed on the Football Queensland YouTube channel and FQTV.
