Match Wrap: Brisbane Roar 2-3 Queensland State Team

Brisbane Roar were defeated 3-2 by the Football Queensland State Team on Saturday afternoon at Meakin Park in Roar’s first pre-season hit out.

The scoring was opened with an own goal in the second minute off Ruby Cuthbert.

State Team Captain Steph Latham scored a stunning long-range effort in the 9th minute to double their lead on Roar.

The hosts solidified their lead after Kyla Hanson found the back of the net in the 36th minute to make it 3-0.

The comeback was sparked by trialists Lily Punch and Amali Kinsella linking up for Kinsella to find the back of the net in the 85th minute.

Just moments later in the 92nd minute, Kinsella scored her second of the match, but it ended in a 3-2 victory for the State Team.

Despite the result, defender Emily Pringle was pleased to have her first pre-season hit out with her new teammates.

“It was super fun to be out there with the girls,” Pringle said.

“We’ve had a really good pre-season so far and so it’s just building from now on. Obviously, we’re hungry for it so just excited to keep going.”

“The girls are awesome, the culture is great, the coaches are great, so really can’t complain. It’s been a lot of fun.”
