She’s back! Superstar attacker and CommBank Matilda returns to Roar for 25/26 Season

Brisbane Roar are delighted to announce the return of fan favourite forward Sharn Freier on loan from Bundesliga giant VfL Wolfsburg for the Ninja A-League 25/26 season.

A local Brisbane City product, Freier made her Brisbane Roar debut in the 20/21 season where she made 9 appearances and scored her first professional goal in a 6-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

Freier had a breakout 23/24 campaign at left wing, starting all 22 games and netting 2 goals and contributing 5 assists.

It was a stellar season in orange that led to her first call-up for the CommBank Matildas. Since then, Freier has been flying in the green and gold, playing at the Paris 2024 Olympics and scoring 2 international goals in friendlies against Chinese Taipei.

Freier took out 4 awards at the club’s 23/24 Season Awards Night, including Player of the Year (Kate McShea Medal), Young Player of the Year, Player’s Player and Fans’ Player of the Year after a 2023/24 season to remember.

Before the 24-year-old’s move to Germany, Freier made 11 appearances in the 24/25 season, scoring twice and bagging four assists before an ankle injury saw her sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Speaking on her return, Sharn said, “I’m really happy to be back and pulling on the Brisbane Roar shirt again.

“Representing a club and fanbase who have always been there for me means so much and I can’t wait get back to playing for them this season.”

“We’re beyond thrilled to have Sharn back, she’s a massive addition to our squad,” Head Coach, Alex Smith said.

“Her ability to take players on and create is exciting and resonates with our fanbase. She is the perfect fit for our playing style, and I can’t wait to work with her again.”
