“Every game is a final”: Studer backs the Roar’s playoffs push

With just two matches remaining and a fiercely contested ladder, the Brisbane Roar are locked in a high-stakes race for Ninja A-League Finals football.

A 4–2 win over the Newcastle Jets at Spencer Park on Friday night, inspired by Daisy Brown’s hat-trick and assist, lifted Roar into sixth on the ladder, keeping them firmly in the hunt for a top-six finish and a finals berth.

“We did the prep, came together as a group and dug deep,” American fullback Josie Studer said post-match.

“Daisy Brown was absolutely huge for us tonight with three goals and an assist. It was an incredible performance with lots of grit,” she said.

Locked 0-0 at halftime, the Roar found their rhythm in the second half, scoring four goals in the opening 25 minutes.

“Coach [Alex Smith] made a couple of tweaks at halftime and said that the game was there for the taking. He said we needed to come out strong and bring the energy, and that’s exactly what we did,” Studer said.

The Roar now turn their focus to the final two games of the regular season. The immediate focus is Friday night’s must-win clash against Perth Glory at Spencer Park, before travelling to the capital to face Canberra United.

“Every team we face from now until the end of the season is near us on the table. We view every game as a final. We need to get around each other, fight hard and find a way to get it done,” Studer said.

Friday’s match at Spencer Park kicks off at 6pm AEST, and Studer highlighted the boost the home crowd will provide.

“Our fans are absolutely incredible. They are without a doubt our 12th man, and they make it easy to fight for,” she said.
