Brisbane Roar have notched their second win of pre-season after defeating Ipswich FC 5-0 at Briggs Road Sporting Complex on a night highlighted by strong connection with the local community.
The evening started with a fantastic skills session with local juniors, hosted in conjunction with Football Queensland’s ‘Football in the Community’, who numbered north of 90. The Ipswich juniors also interacted with the Brisbane Roar squad who also took part in a signing session pre game.
Once the fixture got underway in front of more than 700 fans it was the Roar who pushed for an early lead however a stoic Ipswich defence stood firm throughout the first four 30 minute periods of play.
It was in the second period of play that the Roar found goals through Sabit Ngor and Joel King before Niall Thom and Zach Harrison extended the lead twice in the third period of play. The final 30 saw a tight contest before Taj Sorensen scored the fifth of the night to conclude the action.
The Roar would like to thank Ipswich FC and the local football community in Ipswich for their hospitality and warm welcome on a great night shared by all.
Michael Valkanis’ men now turn their attention to their Australia Cup Round of 32 tie away against Sydney Olympic at Belmore Sports Ground next Thursday, July 30.
