Brisbane Roar have fallen to sister club, Persija Jakarta in their pre-season friendly 4-0 at Jakarta International Stadium on Saturday evening.
Roar started the contest brightly with a host of strong, fluid passing which ultimately led to the first chance of the match falling to new signing, Virgiliu Postolachi whose snap shot through a crowd of bodies flew just wide of the post three minutes into the match.
Following this, a tight contest began with either side giving an inch until a lofted ball from Persija’s midfield fell to the feet of an attacker in the box who was deemed to have been brought down by Roar defender Hosine Bility. Here, Persija converted their spot kick in the 15th minute play.
The remainder of the half saw Roar hit the woodwork once and come close a second time thanks to Nam Tae-hee whose free kicks caused panic for the opposition keeper. On the stroke of half-time, Persija crashed a volleyed effort on to the crossbar after Dean Bouzanis did exceptionally well to get a touch.
The second half saw Roar push to find a way back into the contest however it was Persija who found the back of the net on three more occasions, with the last coming in the final seconds of the match.
The Roar will now return to Brisbane and continue their preparations for the upcoming season when they face Olympic FC at Goodwin Park on Friday, 4 September with kick-off scheduled for 6:30pm.
