BRFC Media Release: American Forward Murphy Agnew Returns to A-League with Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar FC is excited to announce they have signed American forward Murphy Agnew for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women’s season, adding a proven goal scorer with recent UEFA Champions League experience to the club’s front line.

Agnew, 27, returns to Australian football after two seasons in the A-League Women with Newcastle Jets in 2022/23. Since leaving Australia she has built a strong record in Europe, first with Scottish champions Celtic and most recently with Strasbourg in the French Première Ligue.

At Celtic, Agnew was part of the side that won the 2023/24 SWPL 1 title and in total notched up 33 goal contributions across 66 appearances during her time at the club. She also featured in Celtic’s run to the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds, scoring the winning goal against Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava in September 2024.

A Pennsylvania native, Agnew began her senior career at Harvard University before moving into professional football with Þróttur Reykjavík in Iceland in 2022.

Speaking on committing to the Roar, Murphy Agnew said, “I’m really looking forward to be back playing in Australia and I’m excited to be a part of this team. This club has a fantastic fanbase and I can’t wait to be playing for the Roar in front of all the incredible fans.”

A-League Women Head Coach Johnathan Clemente said Agnew’s experience in Europe made her a valuable addition to the squad.

“Murphy’s experience in Europe speaks for itself, she brings goals, assists, pace, and flexibility across our front line and has proven that in the UEFA Champions League. I’m excited to see what she can do back in Australia,” Clemente said.
