Young Roar win seven-goal epic

Brisbane Roar Youth have won a highly entertaining PS4 NPL QLD clash against SWQ Thunder at Suncorp Stadium

The victory is the Young Roar’s second of the campaign, and their second conseuctive home victory by the same scoreline.

The Thunder started brightly and kicked out to a two-goal lead shortly after the half hour mark with goals to Mustafa Jafari and an incredible strike from Thomas Fanning.

Rahmat Akbari pulled one back for the Young Roar before the break and Nathan Yoon had the Roar level two minutes after the restart.

The two sides traded goals in the next ten minutes as the half-hour mark passed with the scores locked at 3-3.

For the first time in the match, the Young Roar hit the lead on 65 minutes as teenager Oliver Duncan squeezed a shot inside the right upright.

The Thunder pushed hard for an equaliser and had a number of solid opportunities but were unable to overcome the deficit handing the Young Roar a well-earned three points.

13′: CHANCE FOR THUNDER: Cross from the left wing finds its way to Mustafa Jafari whose header loops Macklin Freke buts rebounds back into play off the bar. 

18′: CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR: Nathan Yoon makes a barnstorming run slicing through the Thunder defence but is denied at the final hurdle by a strong save from Anthony Passante.

21′: GOAL FOR THUNDER: A floating cross evades everyone and makes its way to Jafari at the back post who the ball strikes and fortunately finds the back of the net.

26′: CHANCE FOR THUNDER: The ball pinballs inside the area and pops up to Nicholas Edwards who lashes at goal with a first-time volley that slides just wide of the post.

33′: GOAL FOR THUNDER: Freke rushes off his line but is beaten by Thomas Fanning and from a nearly impossible angle, the Thunder midfield manages to curl the ball inside the far post.

42′: GOAL FOR YOUNG ROAR: Intricate interpassing from the Roar sees a dangerous ball played back across the face of goal, evading a number of defenders and allowing a simple tap-in for Rahmat Akbari.

47′: GOAL FOR YOUNG ROAR: Nathan Yoon is the beneficiary of a well-placed cross from the right wing and he nets the equaliser.

51′: GOAL FOR THUNDER: Yoshihiro Sakurai restores the Thunder’s lead with conviction just minutes after the Young Roar restored parity.

57′: GOAL FOR YOUNG ROAR: Finn Beakhurst pulls the Roar level again with the game’s third goal in 15 minutes.

65′: GOAL FOR YOUNG ROAR: A low cross loops to the back post where an unmanned Oliver Duncan scuffs his shot but still manages to find the bottom corner.
