Wet weather has forced the match between Brisbane Roar and the Queensland State League Northern All Stars to be abandoned following the conclusion of the first half.

The match went ahead despite the wet weather Brisbane had to endure in the 24 hours leading into kick-off and it took a while for either side to fit their feet in the blustery conditions.

Brisbane went closest to breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute, a swift, attacking move engineered in the midfield found Ivan Franjic in space down the right wing.

The defender delivered a low, driving cross into the six yard box but young winger Nick Fitzgerald could only rattle the woodwork from his prime position.

Erik Paartalu tried his luck with a long-range shot on the half hour mark before Mitch Nichols chimed in with a chance of his own shortly after.

Five minutes before the break, Nathan Bird delivered a telling ball onto the head of Steven Cater and the striker couldn-t do more than pass the ball to Brisbane custodian Andrew Redmayne and the miss proved costly as the Hyundai A-League side capitalised on their possession just two minutes later.

Mitch Nichols rounded All Stars ‘keeper Tim English and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to give his side a deserved boost heading into halftime.

During the break, the heavy rain continued and the match officials decided to call off the game in light of the Queensland State League grand final that was still to follow at 7pm.
