Brisbane welcomes Football Superstar

Brisbane Roar has welcomed Liam McCormick to the club after he was anointed FOX8’s Football Superstar for 2010 in the finale episode for series three.

An overjoyed Liam, 18, walked off the pitch with a prestigious one year contract with Hyundai A-League team Brisbane Roar, along with a scholarship to the University of Queensland, Brisbane.

Hosted this year by Kris Smith and Lee Furlong, the finale saw Liam competing against Aaron Tuner from Adelaide and Devon Gibson from Perth for the coveted title, but ultimately it was his impressive physical and technical skills that proved unbeatable.

In the last nerve-wracking elimination it was Brisbane Roar Coach Ange Postecoglou who made the tough decision and announced Liam McCormick the winner of FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR for series three.

“Attitude-wise Liam seems like a kid who really wants this and that helps a lot, we-re confident he has got the fundamentals and now it-ll just be up to him,” Postecoglou said.

“He will be training with our first team which I think will take a while to adjust to but he-s got the attributes and good foundations for stepping up to that.

“We think he is up to the level of being able to train with us and if need be during the year he may be able to step into the A-League.

“Being involved with the show was a great experience for me and for the club we get another footballer who we believe has some potential, and the fact he is a Queensland boy is an added bonus for us.

“But, having said that, I don-t know if Liam would have come under our radar if it wasn-t for the Football Superstar program.”

Liam, who hails from the Gold Coast in Queensland, is thrilled to be the next Football Superstar and will commence his contract with the Brisbane Roar immediately.

“When I tried out for Football Superstar I was thrilled to have made it into the final 16 and now to go on to win, well, it’s just out of this world,” he said.

“To be part of the Roar is a great opportunity for me and I’m going to give it my all. I will forever be grateful to Football Superstar for giving me this chance to follow my dream.”

Liam has signed a contract with Brisbane Roar’s National Youth League team and will train with the Hyundai A-League squad throughout the season.
