From marshalling the defence to creating chances out of midfield or even scoring them himself, Brisbane Roar Youth player Alastair Quinn has proven to be a jack of all trades.
While it has been a lucky season for the Roar on the injury front, it has been Quinn who has been called on to fill in when the situation arises – something that he is more than happy to do.
āJohn (Sime, Roar Youth Head Coach) has me play in a number of positions this season, in the midfield, up front and at right back,” said Quinn.
āCoaches have always moved me around different positions since I have been playing, it doesn-t really bother me.ā
After starting last weekend-s match against Newcastle Jets on the wing, Sime-s call to move the 18 year old up front was the catalyst behind Brisbane-s first goal of the game.
Although stating he is happy to do whatever he is asked by his coach, Quinn said he was pleased to score his first goal of the season and savours any opportunity to score goals.
āIt was a great game, I was happy to get my first goal of the season and hopefully I can put a few more away as the season goes on,ā Quinn said.
āI played a bit of striker when I was younger so it-s always good to get an opportunity up front, and you have to admit scoring goals is one of the best aspects of the game.ā
Quinn said his side-s great pre-season and a good mix of younger and older players are the reasons behind the success of the Roar Youth squad this season.
āI think the longer preseason were we got to really gel as a unit has really helped us so far this season,ā he said.
āThe balance in this team is another really strong aspect of the side, the mix of experience of the older guys like Dane Milovanovic as well as the energy and the enthusiasm of the younger guys is a real positive.ā
With the Roar sitting at the top of the table at the halfway point of the season, the versatile youngster believes that his side will have to take it up a notch as they face a tough run of away games.
āI definitely think it is harder to play away from home especially games fly in and out on the same day,ā he said.
āI think our results over the next few weeks will be a really good indicator of where we are at team; I-m confident we get the job done.ā
