Brisbane Roar Youth’s run of six games undefeated has come to an abrupt end, going down to Sydney 4-1 in dramatic fashion at Campbelltown on Sunday.
Although coming in to the match on the back of an impressive win against Melbourne Victory in round six, the Brisbane side could not withstand a sharp Sydney outfit desperate to get off the bottom of the table.
Brisbane head coach John Sime was philosophical about the result, stating that his side was unable to maintain the high intensity they showed in the opening stages of the match.
“Although Sydney deserved to win, our boys did very well in the first half and the match was very even at the break,” Sime said.
“It was just one of those games, we weren-t able to maintain our composure and shape for 90 minutes and Sydney took advantage of that; we will regroup and piece it all together this week at training.”
Although opening the scoring through a James Meyer thunderbolt from 30 metres out, the highlights were few and far between from then on for the Roar with Sydney equalizing courtesy of a Jared Lum penalty and then taking the lead just on the cusp of halftime through Joel Chianese.
The second half break did not provide Brisbane with much respite, as Sydney scored their third goal of the game only 45 seconds into the half and then removed all doubt in the 67th minute with Dimitri Petratos netting the home side-s fourth.
Sydney were reduced to nine men late in the second half after the sending off of Terry Antonis and Matthew Jurman and Sime stated that his side was disappointed that they could not take advantage of such opportunities.
“We made a number of mistakes and the boys are disappointed with the result,” Sime said.
“Now we have to look back on this game and learn from our mistakes because that is the only way we are going to get better.”
With the Roar back at home this week against table-topping Gold Coast United, Sime was positive about his side-s ability to quickly turn it around.
“We-ll be good this weekend, we have proven it throughout the season that we can put in good performances and the boys will be keen to forget about the loss with a solid win,” he said.
“It-s going to be a cracking game.”
