Brisbane Roar’s German midfielder Thomas Broich said the early season bye won’t stop his side from continuing strong preparations for the club’s first home game against Sydney FC.
Brisbane started the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 in fine style – albeit without a winning goal – against Gold Coast United at Skilled Park but must now wait a fortnight before opening their account at Suncorp Stadium against reigning champions Sydney FC.
“It-s a pity we can-t keep the momentum going,” the 29-year-old said.
“At the start of the season you want to play again as quickly as possible and with the break, it-s probably not the best.
“But we can-t help it, so we-ll just keep working hard and prepare for Sydney FC.”
Despite making his Hyundai A-League debut at Skilled Park, Broich was one of the many standouts against United.
Given a free role across the Brisbane-s front-line, Broich was a key architect in many of the squad-s dangerous attacking thrusts.
Although closely marked by the United defence, the former FC Nuremberg player was happy with his performance in his first M1 Derby.
“It wasn-t too tough … there were some nice tackles made but that-s the Australian style,” Broich joked.
“But there was some good football played.
“The level was really good for such an early game in the season.
“The first half we did a really great job and now we need to maintain that level for 90 minutes.”
