Isuzu UTE A-League report: Mileusnić goal earns Roar deserved draw

Scott Neville

Nikola Mileusnić’s first Brisbane Roar goal secured his side a well-earned 1-1 draw with Sydney FC at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday evening.

Back in Isuzu UTE A-League action for the first time in a month, the Roar banked a deserved point after Mileusnić forced the ball home in the 40th minute.

It was a swift response to Anthony Caceres’ opener and a solid bounce back from a narrow FFA Cup Quarter Final defeat at the same venue in midweek.

Warren Moon named an unchanged XI from that match and was rewarded with a fighting performance that featured several goalscoring opportunities.

The continuity meant Louis Zabala retained his place for an Isuzu UTE A-League debut, while Corey Brown, Rahmat Akbari and Luke Ivanović.

Brisbane will be looking to go one better at home to Perth Glory this coming Wednesday, the team’s first home match in over six weeks.

GOALS

Sydney FC | Anthony Caceres (34′)

1-0 – Elvis Kamsoba wriggles free, drives forward and puts the ball on a plate for Caceres to apply a close-range finish.

Brisbane Roar | Nikola Mileusnić (40′)

1-1 – Zabala’s ball back into the box was headed out to Jay O’Shea, who managed to nod the ball down on the edge of the area. Mileusnić instinctively swung his right foot at it and beat Andrew Redmayne in the bottom left corner.
