McCormick ready to face former club

After a well-deserved international break, our Roar women are in top shape to face Adelaide United on home turf at Lions Stadium on Sunday afternoon (3pm KO QLD time).

Coming off a first win of the Westfield W-League season against Western Sydney, our ladies in orange are keen to claim another three points.

Sunday’s opponents are entering the contest on the back of a two-week lay-off with just one game under their belts so far after having the bye in Round 2, following a scoreless draw in the season opener.

Former Reds defender, and now key pillar in the Roar back four, Jenna McCormick, says there’s little to go off in preparation to take on her old club.

“We’ve only been able to see them in one game, but you can certainly take out of that game how they play and the best way to beat them,” McCormick said.

“It will also be a matter of adapting on the field, recognising formations and the way that they play quickly and adjust to that.”

Brisbane has won the last four meetings against Adelaide, as well as six of the last eight (W6, D1, L1).

With the return of players from international duties and the potential Westfield W-League debut for Japanese sensation Yuki Nagasato, the Roar squad is showing its depth.

“It’s great to have Yuki here – she is bringing a wealth of experience, with an Olympic silver medal and a being a World Cup winner. You can’t buy what she brings to the squad and it’s great to have her here,” McCormick added.

Nagasato

“We’ve got a very competitive environment and that’s probably the best way you get success, by keeping each other on their toes and making each other rise to the occasion and being the best that they can be.”

McCormick will also be looking to keep on improving her game as the season continues.

“I’m just wanting consistency, to do my job right, contribute to the team and make sure my passing accuracy is good as well.”
