Young Roar eyeing City double

Brisbane’s Foxtel Y-League squad will be looking to consolidate top spot when they travel south to to face Melbourne City.

The Young Roar will search for their first victory on the road when they take on City this Saturday at Melbourne’s C.B. Smith Reserve (2:30pm KO QLD time).

Brisbane claimed the three points last time these two teams met in Round 2, with an impressive 2-0 win that kickstarted the Young Roar’s season.

Despite the result last time out, midfielder Jay Barnett assured that there’s too much riding on this clash for complacency to creep in.

“We know we’re equal top with Adelaide, so any kind of slip up or draw could prove costly,” Barnett said.

“We’re looking to get the three points against Melbourne City after our good performance against them last time.”

Striker Mirza Muratovic was the star of the show on that day in a game in which Head Coach Drew Sherman credited his young side’s defence for the victory.

Since suffering defeat at Lions Stadium, City has been red hot with two three-goal wins over cross-town rival Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory.

Sherman acknowledges City’s current form and suggests the Roar’s opponents could feature a few different faces on Saturday.

“When we played them [Melbourne City] previously, both of us had very young teams,” Sherman stated.

“They’ve obviously done quite well since then.”

Barnett is pleased with his start to season 2018/19, as well as the team’s strong momentum heading towards the Christmas break.

“Personally, I’ve been happy with my performances,” Barnett added.

“Obviously, I’ve got my own personal goals and I’m looking to get better every game.”

With Adelaide United facing the bye this round, the game is a fantastic opportunity for the Young Roar to open some breathing space in Conference A.
