Our Young Roar secured their first away win of the season on Saturday with an impressive 3-1 victory over Melbourne City at C.B. Smith Reserve.
The victory extends the Young Roar’s lead on top of the Foxtel Y-League Conference A ladder to three points with as many games to play.
Young Roar Head Coach Drew Sherman was rapt with his side’s ability to control the game and play fearless football.
“To defeat a strong Melbourne City side and control large periods of the match is extremely pleasing,” Sherman said post-match.
“We continually tell our squad members to play without fear as we have genuine belief in their ability.”
Brisbane had the better of the play in the opening stages of the game, managing to force repeat corners putting Melbourne City under the pump early.
This pressure eventually led to an own goal from City’s Joshua Cavallo in the 14th minute.
Cavallo’s attempt at a clearing header inevitably found the back of his own net via a ricochet off a teammate.
City struck back though in the 27th minute when Jordan Bos played a nicely weighted ball behind the Roar defence, allowing forward Moudi Najjar to level the scores.
The 1-1 deadlock was broken right on half-time as Roar attacker Daniel Leck scored his second goal of the season to give Brisbane a narrow advantage at the break.
Brisbane put the foot down in the second half, piling on the pressure with their control of the ball leading to plenty of good attacking chances.
Muratovic would seal the deal for Brisbane in the 74th minute, stabbing a goal past Majak Mawith at the second attempt after the keeper bobbled the initial save.
The Roar held on for the 3-1 victory which keeps them at the top of table — deservedly according to the Head Coach.

“It is clear that we are performing at a highly consistent level and it is great that the table currently reflects this,” Sherman added.
“As a development coach it is pleasing to see the performance of different individuals contributing to our success.
“The experienced boys in the group were again fantastic, and when you add three 16-year-olds into the mix, there is certainly some very promising signs for the future of our Club.”
The Young Roar next face Melbourne Victory this Sunday (23 December) at Lions Stadium, Richlands (KO 10:30am).
