Our Roar Women is once again battling alongside the Westfield W-League’s top sides as the season edges towards a climax.
A critical 1-0 win last Friday evening away to Melbourne City has the Roar within touching distance of top-of-the-table Melbourne City with three rounds to play.
A proud Mel Andreatta says the gritty win could prove to be pivotal come season’s end.

“It was really important — what a result away from home and to do it the way that we did. We absorbed an immense amount of pressure, then started to find a way through transition to create chances, and we finished one,” Andreatta said.
The Roar Women made the most of limited chances against City, with Chioma Ubogagu’s goal coming from just their second attempt of the match, hitting on the counter after holding out waves of attacks from the home side.
“The way that they controlled the game, they have done that to other teams this season so we knew we had to plan for a different scenario where we weren’t with the ball all the time,” Andreatta continued.
The win saw the women in orange jump from fourth place to second with another Westfield W-League finals berth well & truly on the cards.
With just three rounds remaining, the side is more focused than ever to earn the right to be playing in February.

The Roar Women will be looking to come out firing & overturn a disappointing result the last time the two sides met.
“It’s nice to be home. It will be a good opportunity for us to right a wrong, which was losing control of the game in the second half last time we played Sydney,” Andreatta added.
“Since then we’ve shown a lot of growth, we’ve conceded early and fought back, we’ve been under pressure and we’ve got results. I’m really confident that this is a totally different game.”
Saturday’s clash is the first of back-to-back home matches for the Roar Women who also face Canberra United in a double header next Friday evening at Suncorp Stadium (GET YOUR TICKETS HERE NOW).
