Henry Hore’s fourth Isuzu UTE A-League goal wasn’t enough to prevent Brisbane Roar from succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to champions and league leaders Melbourne City on Wednesday.
Full of confidence after back-to-back victories, the Roar looked set to continue that momentum when Hore guided home a calm left-footed finish inside 10 minutes.
But the visitors responded quickly via an own goal before Raphael Borges Rodrigues netted a contentious winner after the restart, having seemingly occupied an offside position in the build-up.
Cyrus Dehmie crashed a header against the crossbar as Brisbane pressed hard for a response but it wasn’t to be on a frustrating evening.
Warren Moon’s men will instead shift their focus to Saturday’s clash with Western United, which kicks off at 4:05pm at Moreton Daily Stadium.

GOALS
Brisbane Roar | Henry Hore (9′)
Jay O’Shea and Nick Olsen combine to work a short corner to Hore, who steps around a challenge and guides an excellent left-footed finish into the bottom far corner.
Melbourne City | Kai Trewin OG (14′)
City attack down the left through Andrew Nabbout. His pass inside finds Florin Berenguer, who fires the ball across the face from the byline and sees it deflect in off Kai Trewin.
Melbourne City | Raphael Borges Rodrigues (49′)
Nabbout ghosts to the far post and does well to steer a free-kick back across the face. Raphael, who looked to be in an offside position when the ball first came in, prods it home.
