Roar full of confidence ahead of Jets visit

Departing Brisbane Roar Captain Matt McKay says his side are looking to run out the season on a high, beginning with a win against Newcastle Jets on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium (6:50pm KO).

Brisbane welcome the Jets to Suncorp Stadium for their penultimate match of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

The Roar come into Saturday’s clash off the back of a 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix in their last outing – a result which McKay says leaves his side full of confidence ahead of their matchup against the Jets.

“We needed it, our fourth win of the season. Overall it was a really good performance, it wasn’t lucky, we just did the right things well,” McKay said.

“We’re back at home & we need to challenge ourselves to do that again and get better. Let’s make these last two games really strong performances.

“It’s always good to finish the season at home in front of our fans where we can hopefully put on a good show and build for next season.”

An 87th minute Eric Bautheac header stole a point for the Roar in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle the last time the sides met at McDonald Jones Stadium in January.

The Roar skipper added the Jets would provide his side with a tough test and said fans should expect another exciting contest between the two sides.

“They’re a good side, they’re very good going forward and have plenty of dangerous players. Dimitri Petratos is a good friend and also an exceptional player,” McKay continued.

“They’re out of finals contention like we are too, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see great football, you saw that the other day with two great goals.”

Be sure to hang around following full-time as we say farewell to a Club legend on the pitch at Suncorp Stadium.
