Jamie Young & Clare Polkinghorne have taken home the top honours at tonight’s 2019 Brisbane Roar Gala Night at The Lion Richlands.
For the second season running, an outstanding season between the posts for Jamie Young earned him the Gary Wilkins Medal as Hyundai A-League Player of the Season.
The shot-stopper played 24 matches throughout the season, making 87 saves, many of which earned him Save of the Week.
Roar Women Captain Clare Polkinghorne also capped off another memorable season for the esteemed defender, taking home Westfield W-League Player of the Year.
Polkinghorne was a cornerstone piece of one of the league’s tightest defences, once again asserting herself as one of Australia’s finest female footballers as the Roar Women claimed a second consecutive top-two finish in Season 2018/19.
Young striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls’ five goals in his maiden Hyundai A-League season saw him named as Hyundai A-League Breakthrough Player of the Year while Adam Taggart topped the goal-scoring charts, earning the Golden Boot with 11 goals.
Eric Bautheac earned the plaudits of his peers, named as Hyundai A-League Players’ Player.
In her second Westfield W-League season in orange, Celeste Boureille added to her Player of the Year award from last season, taking out Westfield W-League Players’ Player.
Striker Allira Toby capped off a memorable Westfield W-League season, claiming her second straight Golden Boot award. Toby’s season haul of five goals is the equal-highest tally from a Roar player in the last four season & also earned the damaging striker the opportunity to train with the Westfield Matildas during their Cup of Nations preparations.
Another star of the future in Indiah-Paige Riley scooped Westfield W-League Breakthrough Player of the Year. The Redcliffe youngster was quick to find her feet in the Westfield W-League, even scoring her maiden goal on her 17th birthday.
Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre congratulated all award recipients as another season draws to a close.
“On behalf of everyone at BRFC, I would like to congratulate all our award winners at tonight’s Club Gala night,” Pourre said.
“There was plenty to celebrate at Brisbane Roar this season and we’re looking forward to returning bigger and better in Season 2019/20.”
Departing Hyundai A-League Captain Matt McKay became the third player to be inducted into the Brisbane Roar Hall of Fame. The 272-game veteran joined triple-Championship winners Michael Theo & Thomas Broich.
