It’s been a smooth transition to his new Club on the other side of the world for BRFC recruit Jay O’Shea.
The experienced midfielder, who last season guided Bury FC to League Two promotion, is one of new Head Coach Robbie Fowler’s ten recruits so far this off season.
The former Republic of Ireland U23 International says it’s been a seamless and enjoyable move into his new surroundings down under.

“Coming to the other side of the world, it’s going to be difficult if you don’t know anyone but I knew a few of the lads and all the Australian boys have welcomed me in straight away,” O’Shea said.

“It’s been a great couple of weeks – I feel like I’ve settled in already.”
After adapting to the early stages of life across the globe, O’Shea says there’s a great feeling among the playing group already as the squad this week entered the second week of pre-season preparations at our City of Logan Training Facility.
“It’s been tough. I had a bit of jet lag & been trying to get used to the sleeping patterns but the training has been brilliant,” O’Shea continued.
“All the lads are working really hard and the staff are trying to establish a style of play already & letting us know early on how we want to play.”
Saturday will mark O’Shea’s first chance to line-up alongside his new teammates with a maiden pre-season fixture against NPL QLD outfit Redlands United at Logan Metro Sports Park on Saturday (3pm KO).

Saturday’s fixture precedes another clash against fellow NPL QLD opposition Brisbane City FC on Saturday, 20 July (3pm KO) and a week-long pre-season camp in Gladstone the following week.

“We’ve been working hard on the pitch, but it [Saturday’s pre-season match] is a nice little carrot at the end of the week to get out and have a game. It’s a chance to get out with my new teammates and work on getting things right early on,” O’Shea continued.
The Roar also have one eye on the season’s first competitive fixture – an August 7 away date against Sydney FC in the FFA Cup Round of 32.
“Obviously you want to test yourself against the best. They [Sydney FC] won the championship last season so it’s a great test for us to show us where we’re at and we’ll all be working hard to be ready when that game comes around.”
