Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young believes this week’s training camp in Gladstone will prove extremely valuable in the Roar’s preparations for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season.
The Roar have been working hard on the training track while also getting out and about to meet the local community in their week in the Central Queensland city.

Young, who is gearing up for his fifth season at the Club, and 19th pre-season in a lengthy professional career, says the week in Gladstone had been extremely positive so far.
āThatās one of the reasons teams go away – to develop that team cohesion which is important. Obviously we have to work for each other on the pitch and tours like this help facilitate that,” Young said.
āIn terms of the general training, I think thereās a bit more volume than previous years. The intensity is pretty high, the training loads have increased but weāre also a younger team so I think players can tolerate that kind of training load.
āIn terms of the goalkeepers, we always work hard. Itās a big part of our game so itās just business as usual,ā Young said.
The Roar will conclude their week-long training camp with a clash against a Football Central Queensland Select side at Marley Brown Oval tomorrow afternoon (3pm KO).
After picking up wins in their opening two pre-season encounters against NPL Queensland outfits in Redlands United and Brisbane City FC, Young says the side is expecting another challenging outing on Saturday afternoon.
āI think theyāll work hard and it will be a test for us. Weāve got to adopt that Brisbane Roar approach and play in line with the values of our club,ā Young continued.
Saturdayās fixture is the Roar’s final hit-out before doing battle with Sydney FC in the FFA Cup Round of 32 at Leichhardt Oval on August 7, with Young adding the squad is progressing nicely
āObviously the results that weāve had have been positive, the type of football that weāre playing, that possession type football is important as well – thatās in line with our philosophy,ā Young added.
āI think thereās a lot more to come as well but thereās no need to get carried away just yet weāll just work on a daily basis,ā Young said.
