Brisbane Roar is pleased to announce the signing of former Socceroos striker Scott McDonald.

The Australian striker brings a wealth of experience to the squad with a playing career that has included lengthy stints in the Scottish top flight with Motherwell and Celtic, and in the English top tiers.

The Roar’s newest addition says he simply can’t wait to get started at his new club.

“I’m delighted to sign on here at Brisbane Roar and I just can’t wait to get back out on the pitch,” McDonald said.

“It [Brisbane] was always a place that I enjoyed coming to and somewhere I wanted to see more of – thankfully I now get the chance.

“More than anything, I’m just looking forward to getting out there and showing the Brisbane Roar fans what I can do.”

“I want to win and hopefully I can be a really good influence on the younger boys – that’s what I strived to do at previous clubs and it’s something I really enjoy.

“The Club has a great history and hopefully we can bring a little bit of that success back. I really believe under [Head Coach] Robbie [Fowler] that good things will happen and I’m looking forward to making that happen.”

McDonald has represented the Socceroos on 26 occasions, including as a member of the AFC Asian Cup squad in 2011.

Head Coach Robbie Fowler says a player of McDonald’s calibre is a great boost for his side, in particular the squad’s younger members.

“Scott’s record speaks for itself – he’s had a tremendous and successful career at some big clubs, in top leagues, and with the national team,” Fowler said.

“He certainly brings with him a wealth of experience which can only be beneficial for his teammates, especially our young, up-and-coming players who I’m sure will be able to learn plenty from him.”
