Preview: Roar v Jets

Captain Tom Aldred says he is grateful for the opportunity to be taking the pitch tomorrow night against the Jets.

The Roar will face the Jets in a behind-closed-doors rescheduled Round 27 fixture as part of a revamped Hyundai A-League fixture.

The contest will be the first game played behind closed doors this season, but the skipper is just happy to have the opportunity to continue his side’s impressive form at home.

It’s a privilege to actually have a game – there are many teams worldwide who aren’t training & playing,” Aldred said on Thursday morning.

“It’s something we’ve very grateful for & it’s a massive opportunity for us to continue how we’re going.

“It [CBUS Super Stadium] is a great venue. To have the opportunity to play there is great for the team & it’s another great chance for us to put on a good performance & to challenge for three points.

The clash will be the second meeting between the two sides this season following a 1-1 draw in the Hunter shortly after Christmas.

Striker Roy O’Donovan has since moved between the two clubs & is set to face the Roar for the first time since his departure.

“We played them around the Christmas period. With the new manager, they have picked up some good results & offensively we know they pose a threat,” Aldred continued.

“It’s business as usual – we’re well aware of the threat Roy poses & we’ll have to be ready for that defensively.

“He’s another player I’m looking forward to playing against – we obviously did a lot in training. It will be a good test & I’m looking forward to it.

Head Coach Robbie Fowler says the fixture has all the makings of a cracking game.

“It may be different in terms of the atmosphere, but it’s up to every player on the pitch to make at atmosphere out of the situation – I hope it’s our boys who do it better,” Fowler said.

“Our home form, in particular in Queensland, has been exceptional especially since the turn of the year. We have to go out there & play the way we can. We can’t focus too much on the opposition.

“Both teams are in a good space at the minute & it’s really got the makings of a good game.
