Brisbane Roar Head Coach Warren Moon has praised both the performance and the result his team delivered in Friday night’s deserved 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets.
Two deflected strikes either side of half-time earned the Roar three points from a game they dominated for long periods.
“That’s the game – if you don’t shoot, you don’t know,” Moon said in his post-match press conference.
“I think we created enough chances to win the game and were unlucky maybe with the one that was ruled out by VAR. Not too sure, I need to see it again,” he said, referencing Dylan Wenzel-Halls’ disallowed header.
“But on the whole, really pleased, really pleased with the performance and obviously the result.

“Credit to Newcastle, they started well, and for us as a collective we talked about our slow starts. We were probably disappointed with that start tonight again.
“But after that we settled down and in my opinion took control of the game.”
Roar captain Tom Aldred returned to the line-up after an injury layoff and saw out the 90 minutes in the heart of defence.
“He’s obviously the leader of our team, massively important to what we do, and we were really, really pleased to have him back tonight,” Moon said.
“But we’ve got good players who have come in and performed really well. Kai Trewin has come in and been fantastic this year. He’s now a first-team player. That’s great for us.
“Jordan [Courtney-Perkins] got a chance tonight and might get another chance in the coming weeks so we’ve got full faith in the young boys who come in to do a job.”

Brisbane remain in sixth place on the table with a handy three-point gap to the teams behind them.
“We’re always looking up, we’re not looking down,” Moon said. “Whatever game we play we want to win, and with the four we have remaining we want to win them.
“We’re trying to finish as high as we possibly can on the table, to make the Finals, and then to give it a shake. That’s our ambition, that’s our goal.”
The Roar return home to Moreton Daily Stadium on Tuesday for a massive match against table-topping Melbourne City, the teams’ second meeting in the space of a couple of weeks and one both Moon and his team are looking forward to.
“We fully respect and can see what a good side they are, probably the benchmark team in the league,” he said. “We want to test ourselves against the best. We’re excited by the challenge and we can’t wait until Tuesday.”
