Highlights: Brilliant Brisbane put three past Premiers

Brisbane Roar celebration

Brisbane Roar stormed to fourth in the A-League with a stirring 3-0 win over newly crowned Premiers Melbourne City at a buzzing Moreton Daily Stadium on Tuesday night.

Jay O’Shea converted two penalties either side of a clever Alex Parsons finish as the pair fired a red-hot Roar closer to Finals Series security.

Despite being without Tom Aldred and Macaulay Gillesphey, the defence put in an outstanding shift as the likes of 20-year-old Kai Trewin and 18-year-old Jordan Courtney-Perkins helped shut down Golden Boot leader Jamie Maclaren.

Brisbane were brilliant from back to front and have now won two on the trot going into the team’s final three regular season games, which includes home matches against Perth Glory on 2 June and Sydney FC on 5 June.

GOALS

Brisbane Roar – O’Shea p. 6′ – 0-1

Jesse Daley plays a brilliant first-time ball in behind the defence for Parsons to chase. The midfielder gets there first and cuts back inside Daniel Georgievski, who brings him down. O’Shea dispatches the spot-kick.

Brisbane Roar – Parsons 38′ – 2-0

Daley and Parsons link up again with a one-two on the left wing. Parsons darts into the box and brilliantly beats the goalkeeper at his near post from the narrowest of angles.

Brisbane Roar – O’Shea p. 52′ – 3-0

Daley and Parsons are involved once more as both go down under challenges in the City box. After reviewing the incident, the referee awards a penalty which O’Shea coolly strokes down the middle for his second.
