2019/20 A-League Men Season Review

The 2019/20 season was Brisbane Roar’s 15th A-League campaign with the club finishing in fourth position before being beaten by Western United in the Elimination Final.

Former Liverpool and England forward, Robbie Fowler took over as Head Coach and brought in a number of players with experience in the UK including; Tom Aldred, Jay O’Shea, Macaulay Gillesphey, Aiden O’Neill, Bradden Inman, Roy O’Donovan, Scott McDonald and Aaron Amadi-Holloway.

Aldred was handed the armband ahead of what was the first of his five seasons as club captain in Brisbane and marshalled a defence that conceded the second least goals of any side in the competition.

Jamie Young kept six clean sheets, the third most of any player in the league and was rewarded with a spot in the A-League Team of the Season.

Roy O’Donovan (6), Brad Inman (4) and Scott Mcdonald (4) lead the scoring for the side while Mirza Muratovic enjoyed a breakout campaign finding the back of the net twice after coming through the club’s academy program.

The 2019/20 season was put on hold mid-way through the campaign as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic with the final stages of the season played behind closed doors in a New South Wales hub after a three month break.

Robbie Fowler departed the club during the pandemic enforced break with Warren Moon, who’d be working as the club’s Academy Director coming on board as his replacement.

In the Australia Cup Roar defeated Sydney FC 2-0 away from home in the Round of 32 before being bundled out on penalties by Central Coast Mariners in the Round of 16.
