A Mileusnic goal gives Roar three points

Brisbane Roar will take the three points back home after beating the Newcastle Jets 1-0 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

In their first away win of the season, the Roar had to wait until the 80th minute for Nikola Mileunsic to hit the back of the net.

After Angus Thurgate rattled the crossbar early on in the match, it was the men in black who were creating the majority of the chances with Carlo Armiento and Mileunsic putting pressure on the Jets defence.

It was a notable defensive effort throughout the 90 minutes for the Roar, keeping the home side at bay while Tom Aldred and Scott Neville made a number of crucial clearances.

Head coach Warren Moon said tactically that his side had executed the game plan.

“We know what kind of threat they are and how they like to play,” he said

“I think we did a good job at stifling their attacked play and we limited their attacking chances too.”

Late into added time, Jordan Holmes, who came into the starting XI for Macklin Freke, was called into action after Jaushua Sotirio header was destined for the top corner.

Holmes got a fingertip to the ball to deny the Jets and give his side the win.

The Roar will be back at home to the Western Sydney Wanderers at Kayo Stadium on Friday 23 December.
