Adelaide too strong for Roar

Adelaide too strong for Roar

Brisbane Roar left their trademark late revival too late in Friday-s pre-season fixture against Adelaide United, leaving them on the short end of a 6-2 score line at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The Reds, 12 days out from their AFC Champions League quarter-final against Uzbek outfit Bunyodkor, ran out to a 3-0 lead before the half-time break, thanks to an early goal to Fabian Barbiero and a double to defender Iain Fyfe.

Last season-s Hyundai A-League Golden Boot winner Besart Berisha had a second-half penalty saved by Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic before Iain Ramsey further increased the home side-s lead.

Roar substitute Rocky Visconte, a South Australian playing in his hometown, reduced the deficit late in the fixture, scoring twice within five minutes of his introduction but former Brisbane striker Sergio van Dijk netted a stoppage time goal to confirm the result for the Reds.
