Brisbane Roar is pleased to confirm the signing of hometown talent Rahmat Akbari on a two-year contract ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Akbari made six Hyundai A-League appearances for the Roar in the 2017-18 campaign after making his debut as a 17-year-old, before making nine more for the Victory.

The Club’s 13th signing, and one of five players aged 21 and under in the Roar’s Hyundai A-League squad, says he’s delighted to be home in Brisbane.

“I’m really stoked to be here again. This is my home – my family are here, I started playing here when I was younger so it’s really good to be back,” Akbari said.

“The team’s great, the culture is excellent and the team is really gelling together.”

The Afghani-born playmaker returned to Queensland in June as part of the Young Roar setup, before impressing in the first team with goals in pre-season victories over Redlands United and Brisbane City.

Akbari added he felt Brisbane was the perfect place to continue his development under new Head Coach Robbie Fowler.

“He [Head Coach Robbie Fowler] has been really good to me. As a young player I always want to go play more games, this season especially I want to play as many [Hyundai] A-League games as I can.”

Akbari will sport the #25 jersey for the upcoming campaign.
