Aldred: The boys show terrific character

Brisbane Roar Captain, Tom Aldred says his side showed terrific character in Sunday’s 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium.

Roar snapped a four-game winless run and moved to within a point of the Isuzu UTE A-League top six thanks to a Jay O’Shea brace and Jonas Markovski’s first goal for the club.

Roar twice fought back from a goal down with Aldred praising the fighting spirit shown by his side after a difficult first half at Allianz Stadium.

“The gaffer spoke well, look it was just we had to be better. We didn’t do the basics first half, we didn’t win first balls, second balls, going through the motions and yeah you’re going to get hurt from teams and we were lucky to stay in the game to be honest, but much better reaction second half.

“There’s no getting away from it with four defeats on the spin, obviously coming here it was a huge game and to be behind I thought the boys show terrific character, every single man faced a lot of adversity in that game but came back strong and it’s a huge win for us.

“In all fairness to the gaffer when it went to 2-2, he wanted us to go for it, it wasn’t the case of just accepting the point, it would’ve been a good point but we went for all three and it puts us in a good position now heading into the Macarthur game at home.”

Roar return to Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night to do battle with Macarthur, who sit seventh coming into Round 13.

Brisbane have already gone up against the Bulls once this season, playing out a 1-1 draw at Campbelltown Stadium in Round One in a clash that saw the sides trade goals through Raphael Borges Rodrigues and Jay O’Shea.
