ALM R10 Match Wrap: Western United 1-0 Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar suffered a 1-0 defeat against Western United in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 10 action at Ironbark Fields on Sunday afternoon.

Despite fashioning 14 efforts on goal, Roar were unable to find a breakthrough against a resolute Western United side, who took all three points courtesy of a Hiroshi Ibusuki penalty in Roar’s final game of 2024.

Ten minutes later Keegan Jelacic had Roar’s best opportunity of the match when he got in behind the United defence but was denied one-on-one by Sutton.

The home side took the lead in the 44th minute through an Ibusuki penalty after Antonee Burke-Gilroy was adjudged to have fouled Angus Thurgate inside the area.

Roar had a huge opportunity to equalise just moments later when Ben Halloran blazed a first time effort over the bar from the top of the box.

In the second stanza it was Thomas Waddingham who came closest to levelling the scores, twice firing inches wide of the target at the near post as the home

Next up for Roar is a pair of home games against Central Coast Mariners (Friday January, 3) & Newcastle Jets (Tuesday, January 7) to kick off the new year. Get your tickets HERE
