ALM R11 Match Wrap: Brisbane Roar 0-1 Newcastle Jets

Brisbane Roar suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle Jets in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 11 action at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday night.

A second half goal from substitute, Lachlan Rose proved decisive as the Jets picked up their sixth consecutive win at Suncorp.

Lucas Herrington continued his strong start to life in the A-League when he produced a huge block to deny Clayton Taylor in the 18th minute after the winger made a driving run through the heart of the Roar defence.

Ten minutes later Callum Timmins came within inches of opening the scoring when his strike from the top of the box rattled off the underside of the crossbar after the visitors forced a turnover deep in Roar territory.

Roar’s best chance of the opening stanza came through Jacob Brazete, who cut in from the left and forced Ryan Scott into a save with a rasping effort from the edge of the area.

The Jets again struck the woodwork in the 38th minute when Eli Adams thundered an effort against crossbar from outside the area.

Roar started the second half with more intent and created a several incursions on goal with Jelacic forcing Scott into a strong save in the 54th minute at the near post after breaking free down the right and beating his marker to find space inside the area.

A minute later Sam Klein was denied by a fingertip Scott save after winning the ball on the top of the box rifling an effort towards the top corner.

Roar’s tirade on the Jets goal continued with Herrington sending his header into the crossbar on the end of the resulting corner before Jay O’Shea flashed an effort wide of the target from the second phase of play.

Rose scored the game’s decisive goal in the 74th minute with a first time finish at the back post after being found at the back post by a Thomas Aquilina cross on the end of a swift counter attack from the visitors.

From there Roar huffed and puffed but were unable to find an equaliser as Rob Stanton’s side hung on for all three points

Focus for Ruben Zadkovich’s side now shifts to their first away trip of the New Year which pits them against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.
