Brisbane Roar suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Central Coast Mariners in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 12 action at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
A Ben Halloran goal proved to be in vain against a Mariners side who found the back of the net through an Harrison Steele, Arthur De Lima along with an own goal.
The visitors opened the scoring in the eleventh minute through an own goal after Walid Shour turned a Mikael Doka free-kick into his own net.
Roar’s best chance of the half fell to Keegan Jelacic in the 27th minute, who twisted and turned inside the area before being unable to squeeze his effort on goal past a scrambling Mariners defence.
Ruben Zadkovich’s side came out of the blocks firing in the second half and had a huge chance to equalise in the 56th minute when Thomas Waddingham got in behind the visitors defence after being played through by Jelacic but was denied one-on-one by Dylan Peraic-Cullen.
Roar found an equaliser in the 71st minute through a back post Halloran on the end of a pin point cross from substitute, Corey Brown for what was the first goal of his second stint in Brisbane.
Mariners regained the lead in the 82nd minute through a powerful Harrison Steele header on the end of a Storm Roux cross.
Roar were reduced to ten men in the 89th minute when Hosine Bility was sent off after receiving his second caution of the contest for a foul on Ryan Edmondson.
De Lima rounded out the scoring for the visitors with a deflected strike that crep in at the near post in the 95th minute.
