ALM R14 Match Wrap: Central Coast Mariners 2-0 Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of defending Champions, Central Coast Mariners in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 14 action at Industree Group Stadium on Saturday night.

Goals from Miguel Di Pizio and Angel Torres secured the points for Mark Jackson’s side in Saturday’s match.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the 38th minute through Di Pizio, who found the bottom corner with a first time finish on the end of a sweeping counter attack from the home side.

Roar’s held the majority of possession throughout the first half with the best chance falling to Nikola Mileusnic when he found space inside the area and forced Vukovic into a strong diving save with his low driven effort.

Ayom Majok also came close in the opening stanza on his first A-League start but couldn’t get the purchase on his strike when the ball wouldn’t quite sit for him inside the six-yard area early on.

Roar were inches away from an equaliser in the 83rd minute when Thomas Waddingham dragged a first time strike agonisingly wide of the near post on the end of a pinpoint Jack Hingert cut-back.

The Mariners found a second through Torres, who broke clear on the counter and slammed an effort into the back of the net.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat leaves Roar ninth on the A-League ladder after fifteen matches.

Roar return home next weekend for a clash against Wellington Phoenix at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night. Get your tickets HERE
