A last ditch Corey Brown header earned Brisbane Roar a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Wellington Phoenix in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 15 action at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Brown’s 94th minute effort denied the league leaders all three points after Bozhidar Kraev’s 50th minute header had put the Phoenix in front.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in a tense first half, with the best chance falling to Nikola Mileusnic who couldn’t keep his strike down on the end of a well worked team move from the Roar.
The Roar were also forced into a pair of first half changes after Henry Hore and Jack Hingert went down with injury.
Kraev opened the scoring in the 50th minute when he ghosted in at the back post to nod home a Mohamed Al-Taay cross.
Down but not out Roar continued to push and were rewarded in second half stoppage time when Brown rose highest at the back post and headed home a Keegan Jelacic cross.
Friday’s match also saw new recruit Marco Rojas make his Brisbane Roar debut with the Kiwi making an impressive impact after entering the contest in the 60th minute.
Friday’s draw leaves Roar in ninth position on the A-League ladder with 18 points to their name after 15 rounds of action.
Roar are back at home again next weekend when they host Melbourne City at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday evening (5pm KO).
