Brisbane Roar suffered a 1-0 defeat against Western Sydney Wanderers in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 17 action at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
A first half Bozhidar Kraev header proved decisive as the visitors snatched all three points in a cagey contest at Suncorp Stadium.
The games only goal came in the seventh minute when Kraev rose highest to nod home from a Juan Mata corner.
Lucas Herrington came close to netting his second goal in as many games when he created space inside the area but had his close-range effort smothered by Lawrence Thomas.
Five minutes later Jay O’Shea came within inches of an equaliser when he fired a powerful effort inches wide of the target from the top of the box.
Neither side could add to the scoreline in the second half with substitute Jacob Brazete coming closest for the Roar when he forced Thomas into a flying fingertip save after making a jinking run down the left and unleashing from the edge of the area.
While at the other end Anthony Pantazopoulos nearly added a second for the visitors with a curling effort on the end a long ball by Nicolas Milanovic.
Roar and A-Leagues stalwart, Scott Neville entered the play in the 78th minute for his 300th and final league match becoming just the eleventh player in competition history to reach the feat and bringing to a close an incredible career that also saw him represent the Wanderers, Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets.
Next up for Ruben Zadkovich’s side is a trip across the ditch to face Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium on Thursday, February 6.
