ALM R20 Match Wrap: Newcastle Jets 3-1 Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle Jets in Isuzu UTE A-League action at Mcdonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

A long range Jay O’Shea free-kick proved to be in vain against a Jets side who found the back of the net through Kota Mizunuma, Eli Adams and Clayton Taylor.

Roar started the contest brightly and came within inches of an opener in the 18th minute when Henry Hore flashed a strike on the turn inches wide of the bottom corner.

Mizunuma opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a decisive first-time finished after being played in by Lachlan Bayliss on the end of a sweeping move from the home side.

Adams doubled the hosts lead in the 38th minute when he fired home a clinical finish after the ball fell perfectly to him inside the penalty area.

O’Shea gave Roar a life line on the stroke of half time with a brilliant free-kick from distance that sees him move above Matt McKay to become the club’s fourth highest A-League Men’s goalscorer of all time with 27 league goals to his name.

Roar’s hopes of a comeback were dashed five minutes into the second half when Taylor reacted quickest to finish after Callum Timmins initial strike came thundering back off the post.

New recruit, Asumah Abubakar came off the bench for his Roar debut and came closest to pulling a goal back for Roar when he had his goalbound effort scrambled off the line by Mark Natta after being played in by Nathan Amanatidis.

Next up for Roar is a home clash against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, March 1. Get your tickets HERE
