Brisbane Roar suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Macarthur in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 25 action at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Asumah Abubakar put Roar in front before the visitors fought back emphatically through a Marin Jakolis hat-trick along with goals from Jake Hollman and Harrison Sawyer.
Saif-Eddine Khaoui come close to open the scoring in the 25th minute with a venomous strike from the top of the box after a Frans Deli cut-back.
Moments later Dean Bosnjak could only shoot straight at Acton on the end of a promising move before Jakolis fired the rebound over the bar.
Abubakar opened the scoring in stunning fashion in the 28th minute when he latched onto a Keegan Jelacic through ball and slammed a first-time finish into the bottom corner from range for what was his first goal at Suncorp Stadium.
Abubakar was within milimetres of doubling Roar’s lead in the 36th minute he broke clear of the Bulls defence before dragging his shot against the inside of the post.
The visitors levelled the scoring on the stroke of half time when Luke Brattan forced a turnover high up the pitch, allowing Khaoui and Jakolis to combine with a one-two on the top of the box before the latter slide a finish into the bottom corner.
Jakolis put the Bulls in front ten minutes into the second stanza when he Khaoui played him in behind the Roar defence and he rounded Matt Acton before rolling the ball into the empty net.
Substitute, Jake Hollman scored the Bulls third in the 68th minute when he headed home from a Brattan free-kick at the near post.
Jakolis completed his hat-trick five minutes later when he volleyed home a Kealey Adamson cross at the back post.
Another substitute got in on the act to round out the scoring at Suncorp when Sawyer rose highest at the back post to head home the Bulls fifth in second half stoppage time.
Focus for Ruben Zadkovich’s side now shifts to next Friday’s trip to face Melbourne City at AAMI Park in their second last away day of the 2024/25 season.
