ALM R26 Match Preview: Melbourne City vs Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar are up against Melbourne City in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 26 action at AAMI Park on Friday night.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side look to bounce back after suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Macarthur in their last outing.

Asumah Abubakar’s second goal in three games – a first time strike that found the bottom corner from distance was the highlight of an otherwise disappointing evening at Suncorp Stadium.

City, who defeated Central Coast 1-0 last weekend currently sit third on the A-League, five points shy of league leaders Auckland with four rounds remaining in the regular season.

Roar fullback, Jack Hingert will overtake Matt McKay as the club’s all time record appearance holder with his 304th game in orange should he return from suspension on Friday night.

The 34-year-old who won two A-League Championships during his time with the club is in his 14th campaign at Roar.

Friday’s match at AAMI Park which is Roar’s second last away day of the 2024/25 season kicks off at 7:35pm and will be broadcast live on Paramount+

WHAT WAS SAID

“If you break down our performances we’ve actually been performing quite well and playing some really good football, it’s just these key moments that we really need to focus on.

I think if we can obviously fix those those small things that end up being big moments in games then we’re in a pretty good position.” – Jack Hingert

TEAM NEWS

Jack Hingert returns from suspension and is in contention to make his record breaking 304th Brisbane Roar appearance against City on Friday night.

Henry Hore has been named in the travelling squad and is in the selection mix after being forced to play a reduced role against Macarthur last weekend as a result of a groin issue.

City welcome back Mathew Leckie, who returns from a calf issue, but a similar injury will see defender Samuel Souprayen sidelined for Friday’s match.
