Brisbane Roar’s 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign came to a close with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Goals from Henry Hore and Thomas Waddingham weren’t enough against an Adelaide side who found the back of the net through Hiroshi Ibusuki, Stefan Mauk and Harry Van Der Saag in Friday’s Round 26 clash.
Roar started the contest strongly and opened the scoring through Hore in the third minute when the midfielder cut in from the left and fired a low effort past James Delianov.
Adelaide found an equaliser in the 39th minute through Hiroshi Ibusuki, who slide home a finish after being picked out by Zach Clough at the back post.
Ibusuki put Adelaide in front three minutes into the second half when he rose highest to head a Ryan Kitto cross into the bottom corner.
Mauk made it three with a first-time finish after being played in by substitute Panashe Madanha in the 64th minute.
Van Der Saag added a fourth goal for the visitors ten minutes later when he powered a first-time finish into the far corner following another assist from Madanha.
Waddingham pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when smashed home a finish on the turn after Jez Lofthouse’s initial effort on goal was blocked.
Roar found a third five minutes later when Hore turned home a Florin Berenguer cross at the back post.
Hore’s and Waddingham’s goals in Sunday’s match saw them draw level with Jay O’Shea on seven goals for the 2023/24 season, all three players will share the club’s Golden Boot award.
Friday’s 4-3 defeat sees Brisbane finish the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League season in ninth position on the league table.
